A fire Saturday night displaced a Salmon Creek man.

Clark County Fire District 6 and the Vancouver Fire Department responded at 9:51 p.m. to 13002 N.E. 12th Avenue. Firefighters noticed a blaze in the garage of the one-story ranch house and extinguished it within minutes, Fire District 6 Battalion Chief Kevin Todd said.

The fire completely destroyed the garage and damaged parts of a kitchen and living room area, Todd said. Todd estimated that roughly 20 percent of the living space in the home was affected with the total damage costs around $135,000.

“It was not contained in the garage, but it didn’t destroy the structure,” Todd said.

A man who was inside the house at the time was uninjured, Todd said. The Red Cross arrived on scene to help the man find temporary living arrangements.

The Clark County Fire Marshal will investigate the fire to determine a cause.
