Weather Eye: April likely to make wet entrance on Monday

Everyone had a smile on their face Saturday, and so did the sunshine that graced our landscape. A beautiful day in the weather basket. Today we will also see some sun and high clouds moving in ahead of another weather system for rainy skies Monday.

My prediction of sunny skies at the last bell at school Friday came to fruition, thank goodness. I witnessed that in person as I picked up my granddaughter from Felida Elementary School. The towering cumulus held their positions along the Cascade foothills and the coast range, keeping the raindrops at bay.

One thunderstorm drifted off the coast range and pounded the Longview area with lightning, thunder and hail around 5 p.m. Friday. It was that pesky low that hung around all week on its way out that evidently wanted to leave with a bang in some locations. March thunder.

We enjoy the last day of March today, and April rolls in Monday on a wet entrance dampening school-break activities outdoors. Showers linger Tuesday. Wednesday is fair, maybe Thursday, and rain returns by Friday and next weekend.

As of 4 p.m. Saturday, Vancouver was reporting 68 degrees, well above the average of 60 degrees for the date. If you remember, early in March I mentioned we were some 13 degrees below normal on the average mean temperature here in Vancouver. That was historic.
