Battle Ground Parks and Recreation invites volunteers to two Park Appreciation Day work parties to pick up litter, rake and weed flower beds, clean playground equipment and spreading bark or playground chips. The events will be from 9 a.m. to noon April 20, at both the Battle Ground Community Center or Central Park. Dress for the weather and bring work gloves and tools. Clark County Food Bank is seeking food collectors and food sorters. Food collectors drive or ride in food bank trucks (no special license required) to pick up food from local grocery stores. Routes are approximately two hours long and begin at 6:30, 7:15 and 10:30 a.m., and volunteers are asked to commit to a minimum of two shifts per month. The ability to lift a 40- to 50-pound box with a hand truck is required. Food sorters will help sort and repack donated food, with shifts from 10 a.m. to about noon Mondays through Fridays. Food sorters are asked to commit to a minimum of one shift per week. Wear closed-toed shoes and dress for a refrigerated 55-degree environment. Call to schedule an initial training session.
