Cascade Natural Gas customers in Southwest Washington will see a rate increase starting this month, after state regulators approved a hike in rates so the company can recover costs following the rupture of a Canadian natural gas pipeline in 2018.
The state Utilities and Transportation Commission approved the company’s request to recover an additional $48 million in costs accumulated between Nov. 1, 2018, and Jan. 31, following the October 2018 rupture of the Enbridge pipeline that disrupted natural gas markets throughout the Northwest.
The commission approved the request on the condition the company collect the costs over a three-year period, as opposed to the company’s request of two years, to reduce the impact to customers.
The commission said a typical residential customer will see a bill increase of about $4.11.
