The National Weather Service says the fog blanketing the Portland-Vancouver metro may continue to stick around past 8 a.m.

All of the usual Clark County communities — Vancouver, Battle Ground, Ridgefield, Washougal, Yacolt and Amboy — are listed as affected in a short-term forecast issued by the weather service.

Visibility in Vancouver was reported to be about a quarter-mile, according to the forecast.

“Expect patchy dense fog to continue through 8 a.m. Visibility may suddenly change over a short distance,” the forecast says.

Drivers were advised to slow down when they encounter fog and to use low-beam headlights.

Traffic maps showed vehicles on Intestate 5 moving at a steady pace despite scattered fog notifications. As of 8 a.m., traffic on southbound Interstate 205 was slowing around the state Highway 500 interchange.

Later Thursday, there is a chance of rain showers in Vancouver between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m., then possibly showers and thunderstorms after that time.
