Vancouver man dies after being struck by pickup

A 27-year-old Vancouver man died Wednesday night after being struck by a pickup truck while attempting to cross Northeast Padden Parkway on foot, according to the Washington State Patrol.

Veniamin Ponomarev was was crossing the road near Northeast Ward Road shortly before 8:30 p.m. when a silver pickup truck traveling eastbound struck him, Vancouver firefighter Eva Scherer said. He was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center but died from his injuries.

The driver of the pickup, Jaylen A. Hendrickson, 47, of Vancouver, was not injured.

A Washington State Patrol bulletin said Ponomarev was not in a crosswalk when he was struck.
