Weather Eye: After one-day break, another round of showers in store

Rain arrived on schedule Monday with clouds dropping moisture on the earth. The robins and frogs are happy about it. The rest of us? Hmm, 50-50 maybe. At least today is forecast to be on the dry side with maybe an isolated shower over the coast range and foothills of the Cascades.

The low that brought Monday’s rain will spin around for another take on us with showers and maybe thunderstorms Wednesday and Thursday. High pressure builds inland. I think the sun will be shining as school lets out Friday afternoon. And, I promised you a dry and warm Saturday.

Earlier thinking was Sunday would be nice, but nature knows it is another spring break, so all bets are off. Hopefully, we see at least several dry days. Stay tuned.

Meanwhile, our average mean temperature for this month so far has risen to 43.4 degrees some four degrees below average. Earlier in the month, it was more than 10 degrees below average. At least we are heading the right direction.

It is difficult for this weather guy to fathom the severity of weather events this past week in the Midwest with historic flooding along many rivers. Unbelievable. Would you believe ten years ago at this same time I wrote the identical words here in this column?

For the most part, the rain in Vancouver was light as of 5 p.m. Monday, but I had a couple reports as I was ending this column of raining like cats and dogs. That adds a little excitement I guess. It’s better than the old frog strangler, which is rain in the third degree.

There were a few frog stranglers along the southern Washington Coast on Monday afternoon, soaking those on spring break there. At least if it pours at the beach, it is just as delightful to stay inside in front of the fire reading a good book. Lazy days.
