Central Vancouver — Innovative Services NW received a $1,000 grant from OnPoint Community Credit Union to Innovative’s Early Learning and Childcare program for furnishing a new Calming Room. Many children Innovative serves have experienced trauma, which can result in disruptive behaviors in an educational setting for both the child and their classmates. The “A Place for Calm” project will provide a welcoming, quiet place for a child to learn and practice skills to keep themselves regulated during stressful times. This will be done through one-on-one teacher support and will be a vital tool as teachers work to graduate every child from Innovative’s program with the skills necessary to successfully integrate into the kindergarten classroom.
