Washougal — Gause Elementary School first-graders hosted a book party on Feb. 22, with students in Marvina Bugajski, Lyndsey Russell and Heather Hopkins’ classes creating colorful posters and dioramas. Students read their chapter books as a group, created an individual poster about the book, made a group poster and constructed a diorama at home with their families. For the party, students dressed as a character in the book or in their nicest clothes to host parents, grandparents, special guests and other students while explaining their favorite parts of the story and answering questions. “For many of the students, this assignment may be their first time reading a chapter book, so we decided a book party to celebrate was in order,” Bugajski said in a release from the district. “It gave the students a chance to demonstrate what they had learned after reading their book.”
