The sun always shines on the Paddy Hough Parade, as the old Vancouver adage goes. And Friday was no exception, as a burst of spring weather shone on green-clad dancers, pipers and spectators at the annual St. Patrick’s Day tradition, an annual mainstay for the city’s Main Street.
The parade, now in its 28th year, celebrates Patrick “Paddy” Hough, the Irish immigrant and educator for whom the nearby Hough Elementary School and neighborhood are named. The Daniels Street school received its own taste of historic spirit this year, as the Clark County Historical Society and Museum affixed a plaque celebrating the school and its namesake on the historic campus. The plaque marks the launch of the society’s new Historic Buildings Plaque Program, which will recognize historic buildings throughout Clark County.
