Weather Eye: Fingers crossed that we soon see some normal highs

Saturday was one of those “get out of the house” days while the sky was blue and the sun was out. Really. Popular activities I saw included a line of cars waiting for the car wash in Salmon Creek, people filling the grocery stores, folks out cleaning the deck and patio anxious for placing the lawn furniture. Not to mention many taking a walk along the Columbia and in local parks.

Are we not ready for spring? A big yes, I hear! Unfortunately, winter still hangs on reluctantly as a wet-weather system rolls in later on Monday. This also means more snow in the mountains above 2,000 feet. What a great snowpack we have now; everything is back to average for this time of the year.

Showers Tuesday, clearing Wednesday and Thursday and, maybe if we are lucky, another nice weekend shaping up. We’ll see. Meanwhile, we see the temperature reach 50 degrees and better Wednesday into the upcoming weekend. Maybe we get back to a normal high of 56 degrees? Maybe we reach 60 degrees? Fingers crossed.

I hope we are finished with the snow stuff. Those mixed showers that moved through late Friday afternoon with some points in east county and especially in the Portland metro area had a quick inch or two of the slushy wet snow. We certainly did have six more weeks of winter beginning the very next day after Groundhog Day. It doesn’t always work out that way, but interesting anyway.
