The Clark County Commission on Aging, tasked with implementing the county’s Aging Readiness Plan, is doing a yearlong speaker series on healthy communities, particularly for those 65 and older.
“Features of a community either contribute to or decrease one’s ability to live independently, safely and comfortably. Places with clean air and water and access to healthful food, safe streets, parks and pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods provide an environment that contributes to better health,” the commission said in a news release Thursday.
Each monthly commission meeting will feature a different expert discussing topics related to healthy communities. Meetings are 4:30 p.m. the third Wednesday of the month in the sixth-floor hearing room of the Public Service Center, 1300 Franklin St., Vancouver. Alan DeLaTorre, research associate at Portland State University, will kick off the series discussing what makes up a healthy community and how the environment impacts physical and mental health. There is no public meeting July 17.
