A 19-year-old Vancouver man was booked and released Friday at the Skagit County Jail after Washington State Patrol troopers arrested him and accused him of driving 121 mph on northbound Interstate 5.

Bail of $10,000 was posted for Mitchell Peter Cozzi at about 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Skagit County Jail in Mount Vernon, a jail deputy said Sunday. The deputy did not know who posted the bail nor when Cozzi would make a court appearance on accusations of suspicion of reckless driving and attempting to elude police. Cozzi was booked into the jail at 12:30 a.m. Friday and released after bail was posted.

At about 10:30 p.m. Thursday, a Washington State Patrol trooper in northern Skagit County clocked a 2003 Lexus heading north on I-5 traveling at 121 mph, Trooper Heather Axtman told The Bellingham Herald. The pursuing trooper activated their lights near the Whatcom County line, but the driver refused to yield and the pursuit ended at milepost 246 when the Lexus began passing others on the shoulder.

Two other troopers picked up the car coming into Bellingham at milepost 250 and tried to stop it, but the driver exited at Lakeway Drive, where another trooper was waiting and had set up spike strips along the off-ramp, Axtman, a state patrol spokesperson, told the Herald. Cozzi was taken into custody without incident, Axtman said.
