BPA asking consumers to conserve electricity

The Bonneville Power Administration, which supplies the wholesale electricity that powers much of the Northwest, is asking consumers to conserve electricity, as power is tight with cold weather forecast for the first week of March.

Unseasonably cold temperatures, low stream flows for hydropower production, transmission import constraints and high natural gas constraints are putting pressure on the regional electricity system, according to the agency.

The agency said it’s working to increase power supplies on its end and reduce consumer demand to keep the system operating smoothly and reliably.
