The city of Vancouver is seeking “tree hero” nominees for its Urban Forestry’s 2019 Mac Awards.
The Urban Forestry Commission is looking for volunteers who have made meaningful improvements to growing or maintaining the city’s urban forests. The commission will present the winners with its annual Mac Awards at Vancouver’s Arbor Day celebration at noon April 10 at Vancouver’s International District Fire Station 2.
Named after Gordon MacWilliams, a late Urban Forestry commissioner remembered for his strong tree stewardship, the award has been bestowed on people, organizations or businesses since 2010.
“Past Mac Awards have gone to those who have organized tree planting projects, educated others about the benefits of trees, preserved trees during development, donated time and/or funds to advance the mission of the Urban Forestry program, developed creative partnerships in community forestry, and inspired community stewardship of the urban forest,” a city press release stated.
Nomination information and submission forms are available online at cityofvancouver.us/urbanforestry or by calling 360-487-8308. The deadline for entries is March 19.
