Forecasters say light freezing rain is possible in several Clark County communities through the morning.
The National Weather Service issued a special weather statement around 6 a.m. Friday morning warning of potentially dangerous conditions in Vancouver, Battle Ground, Ridgefield, Washougal, Yacolt and Amboy.
“Temperatures have fallen just below freezing near the west end of the Columbia Gorge this morning, with colder temperatures eastward into the Gorge,” the weather service said. “Meanwhile, areas of light rain and drizzle are developing throughout the Portland and Vancouver metro area.”
This is causing freezing rain in some areas, particularly along state Highway 14 between Camas and Washougal. Most areas are just seeing drizzle, however.
Earlier this morning, Washington State Department of Transportation alerted drivers about both directions of Highway 14 between mileposts 12 and 14. People were asked to use caution and expect winter driving conditions. The transportation department lifted its advisory in about an hour.
Traffic maps as of 7:30 a.m. displayed no crashes, and vehicles were moving steadily through the metro area.
Off the highway, the Camas and Washougal school districts opted to start the school day two hours late. Camas’ buses are on regular routes. The Southwest Washington Child Care Consortium has also cancelled a morning program. No other school delays have been reported.
Temperatures should warm up by 10 a.m. The high temperature in Vancouver is expected to reach 46 degrees today.
