Student becomes school’s first National Merit Scholar finalist in 17 years

Ian Abrams, a graduating senior at Ridgefield High School, has become the seventh National Merit Scholar in the school’s history. Selection of National Merit Scholars is based on academic record, extracurricular achievements, awards, and leadership. Abrams spent his final year in high school as student body president, captain of the cross-country team, a team member in Knowledge Bowl, and leader of the Peer Tutoring Program through the National Honor Society.

“I’m looking toward the future, how this education will help me to serve people better,” Abrams said in a recent press release. He is set to attend Brigham Young University in the fall, to study biochemistry with the goal of working towards finding the cure for Alzheimer’s disease.
