Efraimson, Winger named to U.S. Pan Am Games roster

Games will be held in August in Peru

Clark County natives Alexa Efraimson and Kara Winger have been named to the United States Track and Field team for the 2019 Pan American Games.

The USATF announced its 96 athletes on Monday for the Games set to be held Aug. 6-10 at Lima, Peru.

Efraimson, a Camas High grad, was named to compete in the 1,500 meters. Her season-best time is 4 minutes, 4.06 seconds set on May 21 in Nanjing, China.

Winger, a Skyview High grad, will be making her second Pan Am Games roster having competed in women’s javelin at Toronto in 2015. She won the silver medal at those Games.

Winger posted on Twitter: “Really excited to compete in South America for just the second time in my career, on my second PanAms team.”

Winger’s season-best mark is 63.11 meters (207 feet) set on June 6 at Rome.

In 2015, Team USA  completed the country’s best Pan Am Games performance in the sport of track and field since 1999, collecting 41 medals: 13 gold, 15 silver and 13 bronze over the seven days.

The U.S. women won 23 medals while Team USA’s men won 18.

The Pan Am Games feature 39 sports and 61 disciplines. A total of 6,680 athletes are expected to compete from 41 delegations.
