BATTLE GROUND — Five second-graders at Tukes Valley Primary School were the featured artists earlier in June and in Mayat Battle Ground City Hall. They were asked to draw “community helpers.” Zelia Anderson drew a firefighter; Bentley Mezyk, a pilot; Keely Bister, a veterinarian; Owen Moss, a state trooper; and Lilia Bates drew a police officer. Each year, students visit city hall for a program to learn about city government and services. The partnership has grown to include the art display at city hall. The Battle Ground Art Alliance selects one poster from each second-grade class for recognition. The five students were recognized at a May 6 city council meeting and received a certificate, pin and blue ribbon from Mayor Mike Dalesandro and Battle Ground Art Alliance President Dotty Yackle-Kay.
