A Clark County Sheriff’s deputy sustained injuries that were not life-threatening in a five-car crash while responding to an unfounded report of a stabbing Monday in northeast Vancouver.

Shortly before 4:50 p.m., the deputy reported that he had just been T-boned in the intersection of Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard and Northeast 162nd Avenue, according to emergency radio traffic monitored at The Columbian. After the impact, the deputy’s patrol SUV nearly flipped before striking several other cars, Vancouver Fire Capt. Dave James said.

The deputy was responding to a call with lights and sirens activated, James said. A witness reported that the purple car that T-boned the deputy was driving “super fast.”

The deputy was taken to a hospital by ambulance with head, neck and back pain, according to a Sheriff’s Office news release.  Another driver was taken by family members to a hospital with minor injuries.

Prior to the crash, the deputy was responding to a reported stabbing on the 2800 block of Northeast 170th Avenue, according to the news release. The caller had reported that an unknown male subject, wearing a mask and gloves, had broken into her house and stabbed her before fleeing. That call was determined to be unfounded and made up by someone having a mental health crisis.

Names of those involved in the crash, including the deputy, were not available Monday. The Vancouver Police Department’s Traffic Unit is investigating the crash.
