Brian Fernandez scored twice to lead the Portland Timbers to a 2-1 win over the Seattle Sounders in the fourth round of the U.S. Open Cup on Wednesday in Tacoma.

Fernandez opened the scoring in the sixth minute, weaving around two defenders before tucking a shot inside the left post.

After Seattle tied the match in the 44th minute, Fernandez restored the Timbers’ lead when he scored from close range on a cross by Jeremy Ebobisse.

Portland will await a draw to learn its Round of 16 opponent in July.
