After a sizzling day and sweltering evening Tuesday, temperatures will remain in record territory today as the region’s two-day heat wave wraps up.
The high at Pearson Field reached 96 Tuesday as temperature records fell at Portland International Airport and the Oregon communities of Troutdale and McMinnville, according to the National Weather Service office in Portland.
Temperatures were slow to cool overnight, and this morning’s low of 63 at Pearson Field was one degree cooler than a record from 2002 as the warmest low temperature for today’s date. Tuesday’s low temperature of 61 set a new record for that date.
A heat advisory remains in effect through 9 p.m. today, according to the National Weather Service. Afternoon highs are forecast to range from 91-99, with urban areas expected to see the hottest temperatures.
