An attic fire damaged a laundromat in Washougal early Tuesday, but crews were able to stop it from spreading to other parts of a commercial building, according to the Camas-Washougal Fire Department.
The fire was reported at 8:06 a.m. at Riverside Laundry, 921 Fourth St., according to Battalion Chief Mark Ervin. Callers reported seeing smoke pouring from the roof of the commercial building, which also houses an auto repair shop and other businesses.
Crews arrived to find fire in the attic above the laundromat, according to Ervin. He said they pulled hand lines and brought in ladders to pull down a high ceiling and reach the fire before it spread through the building’s common attic. The fire was brought under control in about 40 minutes, he said.
“All the damage was pretty much confined to the laundromat,” Ervin said. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Camas-Washougal Fire Marshal, Ervin said.
