A Vancouver Crunch Fitness employee who allegedly recorded a gym member with his cellphone while she was tanning in the nude appeared Monday in Clark County Superior Court.
Zachary Abel, 29, of Vancouver faces an allegation of voyeurism in connection with
the Saturday incident at the gym at 7809 N.E. Vancouver Plaza Drive.
Vancouver police responded about 5 p.m. to Crunch Fitness for an employee who was taking photos of a woman as she dressed after tanning at the gym. The victim said she saw an iPhone recording her as she was inside the tanning cubicle. She confronted the suspect, identified as Abel, afterward, according to an affidavit of probable cause.
Police later contacted Abel at his residence, and he subsequently admitted to recording the woman. He said he “knew it was illegal … but did it anyway,” the affidavit says.
Abel was granted supervised release during his court appearance and will be arraigned June 21.
