Letter: Protect life starting at conception

I think it is very interesting that the abortion debate has now turned to women’s “rights,” when pro-abortion activists used to point to science.

Those opposed to abortion were told that science was the reason abortion was OK; there was no proof that life began at conception, so it was only a blob of cells. But now that science can prove that life begins at conception, the focus is on women’s rights, ignoring the fact that there is someone else (the unborn child) involved.

I think that it is very sad that “life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness” only apply to some — those who are lucky enough to be born. Nine months (less than a year) in the life of a person is not very long to give many years of life to someone else. And abortion for rape and incest is the only crime I know of where the innocent victim is killed for the crime of the perpetrator. We are beginning to live in a society where “my rights” supersede “your rights” and as a result no one will have any rights.
