Clark County continues to announce its presence each year as a highlight of Portland’s annual Rose Festival. That trend continued Saturday, as representatives from the county grabbed multiple awards in the 4-mile 2019 Spirit Mountain Grand Floral Parade.
The Battle Ground mini-float took the Parade Chairman Award. This year’s mini-float was made of faux fruits and vegetables, featuring gourds, cobs of corn, carrot sticks, watermelon slices, zucchinis, tomatoes and more. The float will also roll in the July 20 Harvest Days in Battle Ground.
It was built by a cluster of volunteers — a dozen women and some men who stopped by intermittently to work on the float.
The Prairie High School marching band won first place in its division, while Battle Ground High School’s marching band took the same spot in its division, followed by Columbia River High School of Vancouver in second.
