Letter: Act locally on climate change

Comments about Kathleen Parker’s column “Plant a tree, hug a bee” (July 25, The Columbian): When I hear that 1.2 trillion trees need to be planted and last winter 40 percent of honey-bee colonies in the U.S. died, affecting our food supply, I am completely overwhelmed.

There are approximately 7 billion people on the planet needing to plant 1.2 trillion, that’s about 150 trees for every man, woman and child. The writer discusses a Forest Service tree-planting initiative. What’s the link? Where do I begin?

As many climate change articles do, they provide the problem: “the Amazon is losing 1 1/2 soccer fields a minute.” This is something I cannot fix. Give me something I can. More local solutions, please!
