Ridgefield — Ridgefield has been named the fastest-growing city in the state multiple times in recent years, and a group of Sunset Ridge Intermediate School fifth- and sixth-graders were asked to come up with ideas on how to plan for growth in the city before the end of the most recent school year. Students were asked to look at specific issues in business, parks and recreation or preservation. The students’ research included calls and meetings with area experts and projecting possible solutions. They created detailed presentations for Growth Expo night. Presentations included how a hotel could generate new city revenue through taxes, options for cost effective ways to mediate drainage issues on sports fields in Abrams Park and proposals for a new community pool and a water park.
