Adams Fork Bridge on FR 5601 closed

Effective July 22, the Adams Fork Bridge on Forest Road 5601 at milepost 2.0 on the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District has been closed because it is beyond its service life.

The bridge was also damaged by flooding in 2015, and has suffered from ongoing scouring of the foundations since then.

Recent inspections show that it can support only its own weight. For the publics safety, the bridge has been closed to all traffic pending repairs. Physical barriers and signs will be set as soon as possible.

FR 5601 provides access to Ollalie and Takhlakh Lakes, as well as developed sites and trailheads along FR 2329. More convenient access from the north is available via FR 23 directly to FR 2329 (south end) and via FR 23/21/56/5603 to FR 2329 (middle).

Call the Cowlitz Valley Ranger District at 360-497-1100 for more information.

More information about the workshop, including attendance fees and registration, is available at https://washingtonoutdoorwomen.org/. Partial scholarships from the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation are available for first-time participants.

Operation Ship Shape targets lapsed boat registrations

The Oregon State Marine Board, in partnership with 32 county sheriff’s offices and the Oregon State Police, will be looking for expired boat registrations August 3-4. lt’s part of Operation Ship Shape.

“We want boaters to look at their boat’s decals, the registration numbers, and their registration card and make sure they’re up-to-date,” says Randy Henry, Boating Safety Program Manager for the Marine Board in a news release. “Make sure you’ve renewed your registration, and make sure you’ve put the decal on your boat, or you could face a $265 citation.”

“Any boat that is powered by a motor — electric, gas, diesel or steam, and all sailboats 12 feet and longer -must be currently registered when on the water, even when docked or moored,” said Henry.

Boaters can renew their boat registration online at www.boatoregon.com/store, or can visit their local registration agent.

Boaters can print off a temporary permit after successfully completing their transaction online or will be issued a temporary permit through an agent for an additional fee.

For a list of registration agents, visit http://www.oregon.gov/osmb/title-registration/Pages/Where-to-Register.aspx.
