The Washington State University Clark County Master Gardener program has worked with the county to help develop and maintain eight demonstration gardens. Master gardener Christine Anderson of Vancouver was working on a xeriscaping garden in the Natural Gardens at Pacific Community Park in Vancouver on Tuesday.

Once a xeriscaping garden’s roots have set in, the plants are self-sustaining and can live off of only natural water from the rain.

Master Gardener coordinator Erika Johnson said that since it has been about 10 years since the garden was started, they proposed an overhaul to revitalize and replant the eight demonstration gardens. A few of the gardens are almost complete, and the overhaul is expected to be done next year.
