Washougal — Canyon Creek Middle School had 11 students recognized at the 21st Annual Clark County Youth Achievement Celebration. All students were nominated by a teacher or staffer. “I think any opportunity to recognize students is great,” said Katherine Baxter, a Canyon Creek teacher who nominated several students. “In schools, most of the recognition goes to achievements in sports and academics. These students work hard and excel in these areas. We see students demonstrating these qualities every day and this is a wonderful way to recognize them for it and to let them shine.” The honorees were: Colton Tuter and Addysen Case for empathy, Baylee Smiley, Gabby McCormick and Corrine Johnson for education, Alyssa Harness for art, James Byrum for inspiration, Jarod Barlow for leadership, Justin Leggett and Jaden Leonard for personal achievement and Megan West for Courage.
