Ridgefield — View Ridge Middle School teacher Jennifer Zora and her class hosted a Mexican heritage celebration to mark the end of their class unit on Mexico before the most recent school year let out. The class enjoyed a feast of local treats, such as cactus, rice pudding, fresh tortilla chips with six kinds of salsa, sweet bread, Vasito tamarind candy and Jarritos, which are fruit-flavored soda. The students spent time last semester touring many Spanish-speaking regions, including South America, Central America and Spain. The students used workbooks with a wide range of activities, from practicing vocabulary to writing entire paragraphs in Spanish. It was the first year that the Ridgefield School District has offered Spanish classes in addition to French classes at the middle school level.
