Weather Eye: Look for lots of sunshine, low humidity over the weekend

It rained and the wind blew all day Wednesday along the northern Oregon Coast and the entire Washington Coast. Believe me, it appeared it was October instead of July. Rainfall amounts totaled a third of an inch to one-half inch. Some of that rain was forecast to move inland over us Wednesday night but amounts, if any, were to be on the light side.

The good news as we transition out of the clouds and moisture: we will lose the muggy conditions. Back to more summerlike humidity levels. As skies clear Friday and over the weekend temperatures will rebound into the mid-80s, lasting into early next week.

Forecast models bring another band of moisture next week sometime, but I think we will only get morning clouds and afternoon sunshine, no rain. If things work out we could see hotter high temperatures close to 90 on Monday, but for now we keep it under control in the 80s.

Despite the cooler and cloudier weather of late, the garden is doing well. Fields have good berries including blueberries, blackberries and raspberries. Won’t be long before the Northwest watermelons will be in grocery stores.

Thanks to warm nights our average mean temperature so far this month is running about average. We have just shy of 1 inch of rain in the bucket so far this month. The rain Wednesday along the coast extended as far south as Woodland as of 5 p.m., but was close enough to Clark County that I expect most of the area had some light measurable rainfall.

To sum things up, clouds and humidity begin to dissipate by Friday, we enjoy blue skies and sunshine, warm temperatures, dry air and perfect summer weather over the weekend. You can’t beat that. Fire season remains on hold so things are looking on the bright side right now.

Have a great weekend, get out and enjoy it.
