Area Agency on Aging and Disabilities of Southwest Washington needs Long Term Care Ombudsman volunteers to advocate for the rights of residents in long-term care facilities. Ombudsmen work with residents, families, operators and facility staff to meet the needs and concerns of those who live there and promote a better public understanding of long-term care facilities. A four-day, 32-hour certification training is provided.
Kaiser Permanente Northwest is looking for volunteers to fill many roles. Hospice volunteers provide friendly visits to patients living in residential facilities, which may include reading, walking or playing games. Friendly and Individual Dog Owner, or FIDO, volunteers bring trained and certified dogs with up-to-date certification for pet-assisted therapy to visit with hospice patients in residential facilities. Bereavement volunteers follow up with the family members of Kaiser Hospice after the death of their loved one with phone calls of emotional support. Home respite volunteers are needed to visit patients in their home so family caregivers can take a break. Clinic volunteers provide general support to patients and staff. Meals on Wheels People is recruiting volunteers to help with parking, greeting visitors and collecting donations at the Six to Sunset Concert Series in Esther Short Park. Concert dates are July 18 and 25, and Aug. 1, 8, and 15. Shifts run from approximately 4:45 to 6:45 p.m.
Vancouver Police Department Neighbors On Watch (NOW) seeks engaged volunteers for citizen patrols, assisting with special projects, and providing valuable administrative support. The fall academy in September provides eight weeks of training in preparation for a one-year volunteer commitment.
