RIDGEFIELD — Union Ridge Elementary School brought in police officers last school year to reward good behavior. The officers come to the school and read to students in the library. It’s part of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Support, a positive reward system used districtwide to encourage and teach positive behavior. At Union Ridge, students earn Tater Bucks tickets when they follow the three R’s: respect, responsibility and resilience. Students can use those points for prizes and drawings, and there are bonus awards entire classrooms earn, including a recess award, lunchroom award and library award. Librarian Jubilee Roth selected two classes a month that showed the three R’s in the library, and they earned a visit from a police officer who read them a story during library class.
