ESTHER SHORT — The third annual Clark County Senior Heroes Award Luncheon recognized six individuals and two organizations who work with seniors around Clark County. The event grew both in the location where it’s held and in the number of awards handed out, as three new categories were added: Senior Champion, Health Care Professional and Community Hero. There was also a new senior heroes grant, which awarded $3,000 to an individual or organization who submitted a one-minute video on a program or service that helps seniors. At the luncheon, the audience watched the three finalists’ videos and voted for the winner, which was CDM Caregiving Services’ Living with Dignity program. CDM will use the funds to install ramps, grab bars, or basic home maintenance and repair to allow seniors to continue living in their homes. The other honorees were: Linda Melton with Community Home Health & Hospice for the Health Care Professional of the Year award, Dee Memering with Glenwood Place Senior Living for the Pat Jollota Leadership Award, Rosa Roberts with Elfin Services for the Senior Heroes Caregiver of the Year, Natalia Gvozdeva with the Hampton at Salmon Creek for the Senior Heroes Caregiver of the Year, Lisa Rasmussen with the SW Elder Abuse Prevention Coalition for the Senior Champion Award and Megan Hope with PeaceHealth Southwest Hospice for the Community Hero Award. Janice Butzke with Meals on Wheels People earned the Senior-Focused Organization award in the nonprofit category, while Julie Williams with Home Instead Senior Care earned the Senior-Focused Organization award in the for-profit category.
