Classes on primary ballots scheduled: Three local groups are hosting Primary Ballot Education Parties next week at the Bridgeport Resource Center.

The NAACP, Indivisible Greater Vancouver and League of United Latin American Citizens are holding two events to educate voters about the voting process, discuss local issues and mingle informally with candidates for office.

The first event will be held 6 to 7:30 p.m. July 24. Attendees are encouraged to bring their voter guide. The second will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 1. Attendees are encouraged to bring both their ballot and voter guide.

The Bridgeport Resource Center is at 505 Omaha Way, Vancouver.

Herrera Beutler hosting BBQ fundraiser: U.S. Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Battle Ground, is hosting her fifth annual Country BBQ and Picnic on Aug. 8.

The event will include dinner, beverages and dessert, as well as face painting, balloon artists and lawn games. It’s a fundraiser to help the congresswoman raise money for her 2020 campaign.

The barbecue will be held at Summit Grove Lodge, at 30180 N.E. Timmen Road in Ridgefield. A private roundtable will be held at 5 p.m. for $1,000 per person or Political Action Committee. The main barbecue dinner will begin at 5:30 p.m. for $50 per person or $75 per family.
