Restaurants Unlimited, the Seattle-based parent company of a number of Portland-area restaurants, including Portland City Grill, has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

The restaurant group, which is owned by private-equity firm Sun Capital Partners Inc. and operates a mostly midscale portfolio of restaurants in six states, has already closed two of its Portland-area restaurants, the Lloyd District’s Prime Rib + Chocolate Cake and Tigard’s Portland Seafood Grill.

Other Restaurants Unlimited restaurants will remain open. The chain operates familiar brands including Henry’s Tavern, Manzana, Palomino, Newport Seafood Grill, Portland City Grill, Portland Seafood Company and Stanford’s.

In the filing, Restaurants Unlimited cited rising minimum wages in several West Coast cities where they have restaurants, including Seattle, San Francisco and Portland. The chain previously drew negative customer feedback for adding a 1 percent “living wage” surcharge to all bills in 2016.
