The Vancouver Mavericks 19-U American Legion baseball team fell just short in the semifinals of the Curt Daniels Invitational, losing 3-1 to the eventual champion Seattle Stars on Monday at Propstra Stadium.

Seattle mustered just three hits against Mavericks pitchers Mason Hill and Luke Brewer. But two runs in the first and one in the second were enough.

Jordan Donohoe homered for Vancouver in the top of the first. Riley McCarthy and Andrew Gulliford each went 2 for 3. But the Mavericks couldn’t break through against Seattle pitcher Joe Pierce, who threw a complete game and allowed six hits.

The Mavericks finished the 15th annual tournament with a 4-2 record.

Seattle went on to beat Gunderson Baseball of Clackamas, Ore., 4-3 in the championship.
