MOSES LAKE — Mitsubishi Heavy Industries announced Tuesday that it is buying Canadian aircraft manufacturer Bombardier’s regional jet production operation for $550 million.
The sale, which must be approved by regulators in Canada, the United States and Europe, means the end of Bombardier as a commercial aircraft producer. The company also manufactures business jets and rail cars.
However, it is a significant upgrade for Mitsubishi’s fledgling aircraft operation. Mitsubishi Aircraft, a subsidiary of MHI, is currently testing its regional passenger jet in Moses Lake.
