Camas — Members of the St. John’s Presbyterian Church performed in Isaac Stern Auditorium at Carnegie Hall in New York City for the “Immortal Invisible: The Music of Pepper Choplin and Mary McDonald” concert over Memorial Day weekend. The members joined with the Distinguished Concert International Singers, which was made up of 250 choir members from across the country. St. John’s was the only group representing the West Coast. They performed seven pieces composed by McDonald, who was the composer in residence and piano accompanist. The opportunity came about as the choir, under the leadership of conductor Angela Tsai, has performed several of McDonald’s pieces and uploaded them online. The choir received an invitation more than a year ago. The members spent 10 hours in rehearsal while in New York, and prior to that, they rehearsed for about six months.
