Art galleries and local businesses celebrate this month’s art shows with a First Friday Art Walk in downtown Vancouver from 5 to 9 p.m. Visitors can enjoy opening receptions and light refreshments at art galleries, after-hours shopping, dining and drink specials, live music and other events. www.vdausa.org

Camas

First Fridays in Camas are themed, family-friendly events from 5 to 8 p.m. when galleries stay open late for artist receptions. Guests can also enjoy after-hours shopping, dining and additional activities inspired by the month’s theme. July’s theme is “Poker Tour and Game Night.” downtowncamas.com

Slocum House First Saturday Art Sale

On the first Saturday of every month through October, the historic yellow Slocum House will open its doors for a pop-up art show and sale from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. These art events will feature works by Mosaic Arts Alliance members. First Saturday dates are July 6, Aug. 3, Sept. 7 and Oct. 5. Slocum House is on the corner of Esther and Sixth streets, next to the Vancouver Farmers Market. www.mosaicartsalliance.org

Opening exhibits

William C. Ferguson and Aaura Lipinski, through July, with an opening reception 5 to 9 p.m. July 5. This summer debut exhibit showcases two emerging artists who create abstract pieces using opposing techniques and expressions. Ferguson will be displaying his “Bohemian Series” to illustrate his inner need for order. Lipinski works on recycled material such as wood panels and uses nontraditional tools to paint and create textures. Aurora Gallery, 1004 Main St., Vancouver. “Dear Readers,” through July, with an opening reception from 1 to 6 p.m. on First Friday, July 5, featuring live music by Avi Haviv and food for purchase. This exhibition by Sue Clancy focuses on the interconnectedness of life and the role of the written word in establishing connections, with a whimsical flair. “Animalibris,” through July. Muriel Wheatley and Levi Greenacres form a partnership known as Lovebirds Paper, displaying intricately cut paper artwork inspired by botanical and biological illustrations with a playful edge. “Field of Sunflowers,” through July. This new solo show by Liz Pike is an exhibit of oils on canvas. During the reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m. on First Friday, July 5, Pike will offer an in-person painting demonstration. Guests can enjoy complimentary wine, cheese and Pike’s famous chocolate truffles. The public is also invited to view the “Sunflower Mobile,” Liz’s latest “moving” original oil on fiberglass. Sarah Dillon and Sam Yamauchi, through July 27, with an opening reception from 6 to 9 p.m. on First Friday, July 5. Dillon’s exhibit, “Where We Are,” encourages self-reflection in effort to define or question truth.
