Weather Eye: Weather looks to be warm, dry for the holiday

Not much has changed since we chatted on Sunday with the weather this week. We saw a pleasant 83 degrees on Sunday and 81 degrees Monday. Today that trough of low pressure we discussed will be overhead and we run the risk of showers as it moves across the region. Clouds linger into Wednesday with at least partial afternoon sunshine.

The remainder of the forecast for the Fourth of July holiday remains intact although there is a disclaimer. We are predicting highs in the 80-85 degree range during the holiday. Some forecast models indicate we could have varying amounts of morning clouds. If so, it depends on how soon they burn off whether we see 80 degrees.

Listen to updated forecasts tonight and tomorrow, but I believe it is safe to say it will be dry over the holiday and pleasantly warm. Highs in the 80s or if clouds remain, the 70s.

Did you see those cumulus clouds building to our south, west and east yesterday afternoon? Lightning was flashing and thunder roaring moving into west and northwest Vancouver around 5:30 p.m. That was expected to last through today. Great time to look for shapes of figures in the cloud developments.

As the month of June ended on a dry note with about two-thirds of an inch in the bucket for Vancouver, we are now in the two driest months, July and August. Don’t expect much in the form of general area-wide rainfall. Thundershowers can always pop up and dump a large amount of rain as they did last week.

Expect outdoor burning restrictions to remain and become more commonplace across the Evergreen state. Even in Pacific County, which includes the Long Beach Peninsula, outdoor burning is banned except recreational campfires in approved fire pits.

We can hope that summer temperatures stay on the seasonal side of things around 80 degrees or so and extreme heat, east winds and low humidity remains at bay.

Get ready for the holiday and we will chat on the Fourth.
