Evergreen Public Schools has announced administrative changes for the 2019-2020 school year. The changes reflect the consolidation and reassignment of duties after 32 central office positions were eliminated to close the district’s budget deficit.
Superintendent Mike Merlino, who was appointed to the position in April, will retain the majority of his duties as chief operating officer.
Bill Oman was named chief academic officer, overseeing the district’s curriculum, instruction and assessment. He also will continue to oversee the district’s high schools.
Union High School Principal Brian Grimsted was named executive director of school support services, supervising middle schools, athletics, activities, safety and security and information technology programs.
Illahee Elementary School Principal Erin Lucich was named the district’s director of instructional development. She’ll oversee subject and content specialists, and the launch of the district’s literacy curriculum. Kiya Masunaga, an associate principal at Columbia Valley Elementary School, will succeed her.
Frontier Middle School Principal Griffin Peyton will be the new principal at Union High School. Lynnette Sundstrom, an associate principal at Evergreen and Union High Schools, will succeed Peyton at Frontier. Andrea Wooster will move from Mountain View High School into Sundstrom’s position.
Allison Harding, an associate principal at Heritage High School, will replace retiring Cascade Middle School principal Kristin White. Frontier Middle School Associate Principal Ebony Kee-McKenzie will replace her at Heritage.
Burnt Bridge Creek Elementary principal Darcy Mitchelson will take on additional duties as the planning principal for the district’s new elementary school, located at Southeast 162nd Avenue and Southeast 39th Street. The school will open in the fall of 2020.
Orchards Elementary School Principal Elizabeth Brawley will move to Riverview Elementary School, and Riverview Principal Stuart Anderson will take over at Orchards.
Mark Mansell retired from his position as Cascadia Technical Academy director. Joan Huston, the campus’ associate director, will step into the role.
Gary Price moves from Mountain View as an associate principal to Evergreen as an associate principal, and Evergreen associate principal Charles Anthony moves to Mountain View as an associate principal.
Heritage High School Dean of Students Charles Tumelty will fill the interim associate principal role at Mountain View High School. Endeavour Elementary School Associate Principal Tami Oppliger moves to dean of students at Cascadia Tech Academy.
Amy Haynes, an associate principal at Skyview High School in Vancouver Public Schools, will become the new associate principal at Frontier Middle School.
Angelina Yelverton, an instructional coach at Endeavour Elementary School, will be the new associate principal at the campus. Jeannette Crone, an instructional coach at Columbia Valley Elementary, will also move into an associate principal position at her campus.
Two elementary associate principals, who split time between schools, will trade part of their assignments. Kristi Wall will keep her half-time duties Riverview Elementary and move from Ellsworth to York, while Rose Treacy will stay the part-time associate role at Hearthwood, and move from York to Ellsworth.
