Police are investigating a body that was found in the Columbia River on Monday near Tidewater Cove.

Around 5 p.m., a boater near the cove called 911 to report that a body was floating on the river, according to a Vancouver Police news release. The Vancouver Police and Fire departments responded along with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office Marine Patrol.

The Clark County Medical Examiner’s Office is working to identify the person and notify next of kin, Vancouver Police Sgt. Aaron Gibson said.

No additional information was releasable Monday night, the press release said.

Emergency personnel spent more than 2 ½ hours at the scene. Soon after the body was discovered, a thunderstorm passed over Clark County, forcing responders to temporarily halt before the eventual recovery, Vancouver Fire spokesman Joe Spatz said.
