Weather Eye: We might see some snowfall around Clark County very soon

hope you have enjoyed this nice week of sunny days, as clouds are on the way. Couldn’t last forever, right? With those clouds we expect Friday will be a rather gloomy day with rain for most of the day. Looking beyond that through the weekend, we see some challenges in the weather forecast.

We mentioned here the other day that the snow level was going to lower, but how much? Unfortunately, that is still up in the air (pun). As you know we use various computer forecast models to finally come to a somewhat accurate forecast. Any time we have cold air and moisture here in the lowlands the computer models go bananas.

The model that is usually the most accurate has snow levels by Monday down to sea level. However, the precipitation will be in the form of showers. Snow may mix or fall to low elevations, but little if any accumulations.

At this point it is not a clear-cut snow situation heading our way. The higher foothills around will have some for sure. So, if your smartphone app is indicating snowflakes, take it in stride and keep tuned to reliable weather forecasts as things change. And change they will. At least we do not go into the deep freeze like so many back East.

Meanwhile January goes into the record books as a dry winter month. In Vancouver, only 2.83 inches of rain has fallen. If no rain is measured by midnight, that will be 2.85 inches below average.

Enjoy today and prepare for wet and chilly weather. We will look at the last-minute snow situation on Sunday.
