This is why Dr. Peter Lubisich became a pediatric dentist.
“I never want a child to have dental pain,” said Lubisich, an organizer of the free Children’s Dental Day happening Saturday.
The event is hosted by the Clark County Dental Society and Student American Dental Hygiene Club of Clark College, and runs from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Clark College’s Firstenburg Dental Hygiene Clinic, 2232 East Reserve St., Vancouver.
The event is for children ages 4 through 17. Procedures available include a doctor’s exam, cleanings, X-rays, sealants, fluoride and selected emergency treatments.
Because of the measles outbreak, the college is asking all patients and family members to bring their proof of immunization or immunity to measles with them.
This is the 13th year of the dental day, Lubisich said, and it has been a success in providing dental care to those who might not normally get it. More than 100 patients are already scheduled to attend the dental day, and Lubisich explained that for many of them, “the first time they think about going to the dentist is when something hurts.”
Lubisich said the dental day is a way to be more proactive in treating teeth. Instead of people just showing up when a problem develops, they can learn about the safety net clinics in the area. Those include the Free Clinic of Southwest Washington, New Heights Clinic, Dental Hygiene Club of Clark College, Battle Ground Health Care, and Oregon Health & Science University Pediatric Dentistry Fund.
“We’ve absolutely seen a drop off in emergent care with kids especially” since dental day started, Lubisich said.
You can call 360-992-2158 to schedule an appointment. Lubisich also said you can most likely show up the day of, and still be seen.
