A man is in critical condition after a collision just after 4:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Maple Tree area.

A man driving a red four-door car and a woman driving a black sport-utility vehicle side-swiped each other while driving in opposite directions near Northeast 102nd Avenue and Northeast Fourth Plain Boulevard, Vancouver firefighter-paramedic Joe Hudson said. The car sustained heavy damage, and the man suffered an arm injury and severe bleeding, he said.

The man, who was not identified, was taken to PeaceHealth Southwest Medical Center in critical condition, Hudson said. The woman involved was also taken to the hospital with minor injuries, he said.
