CAMAS — The Crown Park pool hasn’t been open in more than a year, and the historic Camas summer attraction is scheduled to be demolished this year. Before it’s torn down, the city will hold a retirement party for the pool. The “Thanks for the Memories” gathering to celebrate the 65 years of the Camas Municipal Pool will run from 2 to 4 p.m. Feb. 9 at Scout Hall in Crown Park, 120 N.E. 17th Ave.
The party will allow guests to share pool memories, photo boards, meet the city’s parks and recreation staff and take selfies near the pool with water-themed props. Guests are encouraged to bring their historic or memorable photos of the pool building or of themselves and family members enjoying the pool’s amenities. Staff will be on hand to scan up to five photos, which will be saved for archival reference at both the Camas Public Library and the Two Rivers Heritage Museum.
The pool has been open in the city for 65 years. City officials have discussed building a new pool on the same spot, or replacing the pool with a splash pad. In May, some local kids tried to raise enough money to save the pool by opening a lemonade stand.
