The fifth annual Clark Public Utilities Race for Warmth was the utilities’ most successful yet, raising $60,000 to help those in need keep the heat on at home.
The utility said 1,479 runners and walkers participated Sunday. This year’s event included 150 more registrants and an additional $8,000, at least, in donations over 2018, according to the utility. Burgerville restaurants across Clark County collected nearly $20,000 in donations, nearly double last year’s total.
All proceeds from the event go to the utility’s Operation Warm Heart, a donor-funded program that helps people in financial trouble who don’t otherwise qualify for other financial assistance pay winter electric bills.
According to the utility, more than 11,000 customers have received nearly $2.4 million in grants through Operation Warm Heart since it started in 1985. The money comes from utility customer, employees and local businesses’ donations.
